– My very first homebred foal is already 12 years old!
Dark Delight was not only my first foal, but also the reason Veulentekoop.nl and Foalforsale.com were founded.
I remember it like it was yesterday…For days I tried to capture him trotting on video. But this little boy had other ideas: cantering, bucking, jumping over poles – everything except trotting. Finally, I succeeded! That evening I uploaded the video to YouTube.
The next morning, I was already early out in the field when I got a phone call:
“Hello, do you speak English?”
Five minutes later, he was sold – to a Grand Prix rider from Latvia.
I rushed inside to tell Paul the exciting news… and then panic hit: How do I arrange the payment? What should the contract say? How do I get him there safely?
Dark Delight taught me everything about selling a foal abroad – What it takes to get a young horse to the right place, where they get every opportunity they deserve.
